GRIP Biosphere A Living Air Purification System for Healthier Workspaces

At GRIP Biosphere, we have reimagined indoor air quality by integrating nature, engineering, and intelligent ventilation into a single ecosystem.

In a region like Delhi NCR—where air pollution levels are among the highest in the world—indoor air quality is not just a comfort issue, it is a health priority.

GRIP Biosphere introduces a hybrid biofiltration and advanced HVAC system that continuously purifies indoor air, creating a healthier and more productive environment for everyone inside the building.

Nature + Technology: A New Standard for Clean Air

The GRIP Biosphere system combines hydroponically grown plants, advanced air filtration, and intelligent airflow management to create a multi-stage air purification process.

The system works by collecting return air from every floor of the building and passing it through a living bio-filter of carefully selected plants before it is re-conditioned and redistributed through the HVAC system.

This creates a closed-loop air purification ecosystem that continuously improves indoor air quality.

Living Bio-Filtration Using Hydroponic Plants

At the heart of the Biosphere system is a large hydroponic plant installation consisting of more than 2,000 plants, specifically selected for their air-purifying properties.

These plants are known for their ability to:

  • Absorb harmful airborne toxins

  • Reduce carbon dioxide levels

  • Release oxygen through natural photosynthesis

  • Capture fine dust particles on leaf surfaces

  • Improve indoor humidity balance

As return air flows across the plant beds, pollutants are naturally absorbed and broken down by plant roots and beneficial microorganisms present in the hydroponic system.

This process is known as bio-filtration, a natural air purification method increasingly used in advanced green buildings worldwide.

Intelligent Carbon Dioxide Control

Indoor air quality is strongly affected by CO₂ levels generated by occupants.

At GRIP Biosphere, each floor is equipped with CO₂ sensors that continuously monitor indoor air conditions.

When CO₂ levels begin to rise, motorized dampers automatically introduce purified air into the floor through the supply duct system.

This ensures that fresh, oxygen-rich air is supplied only when needed, maintaining optimal air quality while minimizing energy consumption.

The system maintains indoor CO₂ levels within the optimal range of 600–800 ppm, which has been shown in scientific studies to significantly improve:

  • Cognitive performance

  • Alertness and concentration

  • Decision-making ability

  • Overall workplace productivity

Advanced Mechanical Filtration

After passing through the plant bio-filter, the air is further purified using high-efficiency filtration systems including TFA and MERV-13 filters.

These filters remove airborne pollutants such as:

  • PM2.5 and PM10 particulate matter

  • Dust and allergens

  • Bacteria and airborne microbes

  • Urban pollution particles common in Delhi NCR

The result is cleaner indoor air even during periods of severe outdoor pollution.

Continuous Oxygenation and Air Renewal

The hydroponic plant system also contributes to natural oxygen generation through photosynthesis.

With over 2,100 actively growing plants, the Biosphere system continuously:

  • absorbs carbon dioxide

  • releases fresh oxygen

  • enhances air freshness throughout the building

This biological oxygenation works alongside the mechanical ventilation system to maintain balanced and breathable indoor air.

Healthier Indoor Environment

Cleaner air directly impacts the health and wellbeing of building occupants.

The Biosphere system helps reduce common symptoms associated with poor indoor air quality, including:

  • fatigue and drowsiness

  • headaches

  • eye and throat irritation

  • reduced concentration

By reducing airborne pollutants and maintaining optimal CO₂ levels, the system supports healthier and more comfortable working conditions.

Improved Productivity and Workplace Well-Being

Research from global building health studies has shown that improved indoor air quality can lead to:

8–11% increase in cognitive performance
Improved focus and productivity
Reduced employee fatigue
Lower absenteeism

The presence of greenery also introduces biophilic design elements, which are known to reduce stress and improve psychological wellbeing in workplaces.

Energy Efficient and Sustainable

Unlike conventional ventilation systems that operate continuously, the Biosphere system uses demand-controlled ventilation based on real-time CO₂ monitoring.

This approach allows the building to:

  • optimize fresh air supply

  • reduce unnecessary HVAC operation

  • improve overall energy efficiency

The integration of natural bio-filtration with advanced mechanical systems makes GIP Biosphere both sustainable and technologically advanced.

A New Benchmark for Healthy Buildings

The GRIP Biosphere initiative represents a forward-thinking approach to building design—one that recognizes the importance of clean air, occupant health, and environmental responsibility.

By combining living plant systems, advanced filtration, and intelligent airflow management, GIP Biosphere creates an indoor ecosystem that supports healthier, more productive workplaces.

In a city where clean air is increasingly precious, GIP Biosphere ensures that every breath inside the building is fresher, cleaner, and healthier.
